SHOULD CELEBRITIES GET INVOLVED IN POLITICS?

The Presidential Election is a few weeks away, and as the year 2020 comes to an end many celebrities in the African American community are not only weighing In but are stepping up! Last Friday two of Raps Icons were in the spotlight met with mixed reviews regarding should celebrities be involved in politics? Both were met with severe criticism from the grassroots organizations, and fellow celebrities.

Rapper Ice Cube presented his “Contract With Black America” Where both parties reached out to Ice Cube. Cube later met with a Republican Campaign Manager, and not actually the President Ice Cube states on Roland Martin’s Unfiltered show that “He Never Met with President Trump nor ever been in the White House a day in his life. Cube states he also presented the same contracted to the Democrats who stated they would chat after the election. The social media went crazy with numerous remarks stating “Ice Cube don’t speak for me, and Ice Cube for President.”

The very same day Rapper P. Diddy spoked with Charlamagne The God about Him endorsing Joe Biden, and his launch of his Black Political Party “Our Black Political Party”. Earlier this year P. Diddy urged everyone to “Hold The Vote hostage” until both parties show more support in communities changed his tune stating that he recanted his earlier comment stating voting is crucial in this election, and stated the world is watching with that said we need a party of our own.”

Many Other celebrities have weighed in on both rappers DL Hughley states that “Ice Cube Is not qualified to discuss political matters.” However TI defends Ice Cube meeting with Trumps Camp stated that “We should give Ice Cube the benefit of the doubt.” Ice Cubes was praised by social media just a few weeks earlier stating “What In It for Us comment on what is either party brining to the African Americans.

For decades Celebrities have been in politics dating back to the Civil Rights movement such as Harry Belafonte, James Brown, and Stevie Wonder. During the time when Colin Kapernick took a knee the public called for celebrities to speak up and stand with Kapernick. Very few did or even spoke on his behalf. The question is why do we state they are not qualified to speak when the public demanded celebrities stand up?

Some Black celebrities can even relate to the Middle class and Poverty Stricken communities because they grew up In those very same conditions. P. Diddy and Ice Cube are no stranger to speaking up on social injustice and have been very vocal for many years. It seems there is a double standard where Kim Kardashian was praised for going to the White House to get the job done where when a black man speaks up his is dragged for his efforts.

The bottom line we need all hands are on deck for this election, and they are doing what we demanded that our black men need to do they stepped up. We often have to work with people we don’t agree with but we must come together for the greater good. Yes we know the Republican Party used it to their advantage even by photo shopping Ice Cube with 50 Cent (Who endorses Trump) wearing a Trump supporter Hat that said “Trump 2020” posted by Eric Trump and later deleted.

I think with P. Diddy new “Political Party“, Ice Cubes “Contract With Black America”, Killer Mikes “Greenwood Bank,” TI and David Banners entrepreneurship, and activism I truly believe our Black men are stepping up! There acts are influencing more black men to step up, and tap into their inner King. It would be so dope if they can all collaborate their effects together! The media want our people to be split, and divided stand strong stand up for our black men that are trying to create change in our communities.
